ABSTRACT
The acute alld chronic treatedfish showed significant decrease in both Na+
alld Ct levels. X levels showed a higher values in the acute case, but all
adaptation appears to take place in the chronic case. An increased in the
concentrations of Cci+ was observed during both acute and chronic acid
exposures.
Na+, K t and ccl+ iOlls eiflux showed a significant increase 24 hrsfollowing
the, transfere offish to pH 3.1. A rapid decrease ofserum osmolality occured
at both pH levels (5.4 and 4. 7), after chronic acid exposure. This decrease was
observed throughout the whole ofthe experimental period. (J2 weeks).
