ABSTRACT
The Mediterranean Sea has been simp/flied in its .\hape as consisting (?f two
closed rectant,71r1ar basins with constant depth. The basins were assumed to be
either separated at 11111is Strait by a barrier or connected together throllxh an
opining (!f 2° width. A numericalnlodel delreloped hy ,Solinlan et al. (1993) has
been tested several timesfoj” the fore Jl1entioned shapes with constant depths
which varied between 100 111 and 2000 111. l\]Jecial attention was paid to the
pronounced deviations in the alllplitudes qfthe two basins/or each shape. The
co-tidal lines showed SOllIe peculiarities between the d{fferent depths.
Considerable increase in amplitude was observed at the d!fferent conditions
in each basin which revealed the approach
