ABSTRACT
Lake Manzalh is situated at the eastem boarder (!lthe Nile Delta. It is the
largest (!f the Egyptian lakes. Along the SOli them shore (!! the lake, a number
(!! bays and lagoons are present, some (!f them are connected by narrow
straits.
Lake Bardawil is located at the northem part (!! the Sinai peninsula in an
active tectonic area.
lhe regional structural framework (~! the two lakes had been delineated
using aeromagnetic and grmJity data as the main source (~! information Both
Bouguer gravity and Reduced To Pole (IUP) magnetic maps were separated
into their rexional and residual components to reflect shallow sources and to
reveal the broad anomalies (!!deep sources. Moreover, wave numberfiltering
(!!potentialfield data, IIsing Fast Fourier 7i-an~for111 (FFJ), was carried out.
Depth to the basement and stmctures, as well as the IitholoX)’ (!! d~f!erent
formations were estimated OI’er lake Bardawilusing 2J)-l11odeI pn!lile.
7he results were integrated with subs1I1.face xeologic il!lormation to get a
clear picture about the two lakes:
Lake Manzalh has originated as a result q! a subsidence dominated in that
area and initiated/rom the direct tectonic activities that was prevailing during
the Post-Miocene time andor indirect from stmctllres formed through the
activities prevailed during the Pre-Miocene time.
Lake Bardawil has a shallow origin and has heen caused by a local quiet
tectonic movement cousing subsidence andlor upl{!ting (!! d~f!erent parts
beside the presence (!!many faults.
