ABSTRACT
Twenty three samples from the main channel of
lake Nub1a collected during July 1985 were chemically
analysed for major chemical constituents, viz: AlZ
03′ FeZ 03′ ea 0, Mg 0, Ca CO] and for organic matter.
The mineral composition of the sediments wes
described by studtes of the light and heavy m1nerals.
The microscopic investigation of the light fraction
ind1cated that quartz forms up to 97 1 while feldspars
form up to Z I. The heavy minerals encountered
in the sedflllents under 1nvestigation consist llI8inly
of opaques. Iron, tourmal1ne, rutfle. garnet. biotite.
hornblend. monaz1te and others.
