STUDIES OF RED SEA FISHERIES BY LIGHT AND PURSE-SEINE NEAR

ABSTRACT
Ei’~ht fish species formed morc than 95% of the eaich by
light and purse-seine near Al-Ghardaqa. Statistical analysis ha,s
shown that the ca.tch by a. total of 140 thousand candles butagaz
lamps may not be larger than tha.t by a total of 2.8 thousa.nd
canules kerosine lamps. The growth, recruitments, fishing and
natural mortaliiy rates were studied for the eight species. The
ca.tch may be increased by increasing fishing effort and the
exploitation of now fishing grounds.
