Marked variation in Aioisture content could be detected
with different length groups. Generally Prawns with immature
stages have higher water percentage ;n their MUScles than
the mature ones. After ablation. the percentage of water
content is greater than that of the unablated animal.
In the bilateral ablation of the eyestalk of the prawn
Penaeus kerethlna (L). there was IIlOre lipid than protein in
the ovary after 30 days postoperation.
The general decline in the total ovarian proteins of
ablated animals Might be attributed to its utilization on
yolk formation. The inadequate availability of proteins
following the ablation affe~ts the intraovarian synthesis.
The remarkable postoperative augmentation of total
ovarian lipids, whi~h are ~OU”ltered by an allllOst
equivalent drop in hepatopancreati~ Iipids. MY leed to a
certain mode of transfer~e of the hepatopancreati~ lipids
to the ovary. during the period of a~~eler8ted
vitellogenesis following eysdtalk removal.
