ABSTRACT
An ai rborne thermograph; c survey was carr; ed out along
the northwestern coasts of the state of Qatar in March 1980.
The object; ve of the study was to detect possi b1e sources
of groundwater di scharge ; nto the sea. Infrared 1i nescann i ng
was successfu lin detecti ng therma 1 anoma lies at a number
of 1ocati ons along these coasts. Severa 1 of the warmer
anomalies have been identified as groundwater discharge.
The vo 1ume of groundwater loss was estima ted at four ma i n
locations and was found to range from 560 to 3730 m3/day
dependinq on the location.
