ABSTRACT
Gobiid fishes mostly Gohius nigero are the main eonstiwent of
small beach-seine trash catch fr0111 Abu Kir Bay. The growth.
monalities and exploitation ratio o.f G. niger were studied in the
present work. GrOll’th lms deduced from length frequency data using
compleat ELEFAN so.fhmre. The estimated lengths lrere 6.49. JJ.02
and 13 em at .first. second and third age groups respectively. The von
Berralan..ffj· growth paramefers ll’ere found 10 be Lx =14.54 em & K=
0.827 year -/ The results also indicafed that this species is highly
over-fished lvhere the ishing morrali~r F=2.6161 and exploitation
ratio E= 0.7862. This emphasizes the need for good management for
beach seine operating in Alexandria lmters.
