ABSTRACT
The present work 011 Khor-Kalabsha, Lake Edkll and Port-Said provides
il?formation on orgallic matter and carhohydrates in sediments C?f d!fferent
habitats. The carbohydrates at Khor Kalabsha are mainly derived fr0111
autochthonous organic nlatter. High levels were found in winter and are
related to renlain{; ~f macrophytes, while plankton is the source in slimmer.
Carbohydrates in the sediments (?f Lake Edku have a heterogeneous orixil1
c011.\;i.\;ting C?f the remains (?f aquatic plants alld planktollic organisms. HiXh
levels qforganic matter and carhohydrates were observed in winter, and are
related to the presence of nlajor components ~f organic malter as
autochthonous products. 111 Port-Said region, the source ofthe major organic
matter and carbohydrates are considered to he allochthonous comingfrom
Lake Manzalah and sewage, except il1 station VII, which is considered a.””
autochthonous organic matter.
