ABSTRACT
Data for length-weight relationship, age, growth and mortality were analyzed for
Lithognathus mormyrus in the Mediterranean coast off Alexandria waters. Total length
ranged between 8 and 25 cm and the gutted weight from 7.2 to 165 gm. The length-weight
relationship was determined for males (log a=-1.719, b = 2.769), females (log a= -1.995,
b=3.017) and combined sexes (log a= -1.869, b = 2.918).Growth in length was expressed
with Von Bertalanffy growth equation. Growth parameters for males were (L= 36.01, k=
0.129, to= -0.982), for females (L= 35.07, k = 0.133, to= – 1.527) and for the whole sample
(L=37.08, k = 0.127, to = -1.49).Total mortality (Z) was ( 0.675 for males and 0.591 for
females), natural mortality (M) was ( 0.398 for males and 0.406 for females).
