ABSTRACT
The present study deals with the physical and chemical characteristics of the water of
Abu Za’baal Ponds. Determination of physical parameters (air and water temperatures,
transparency, electrical conductivity, salinity, total solids, total dissolved solids and total
suspended solids) and chemical parameters (pH, DO, BOD, COD, HCO3

) were carried out to identify the
nature and quality of the water of Abu Za’baal Ponds. The present results reveal that the
values of most physical and chemical parameters were higher than those of freshwater,
lower than those of saline water and in the same range of the brackishwater. Thus, the water
of Abu Za’baal Ponds can be classified as brackishwater.
