ABSTRACT
A study of four 30 m. deep boreholes drflled
in the mfdway of the Nile Delta coast has been
undertaken. The subsurface sediments from top to
30 m. depth have been divided according to thefr
heavy lIinerll assemblages into two stages. The earlier
stage (1). Is synchrontsed with the upper late
Paleotfthic age. Its top is recorded It 24 II. depth
to the south from lake Burullus and stnks deeper
northwa rds. The recent upper stage (II) corresponds
to the Neolithic age: It is subdivided into two
phases. The lower _or earlier phase (I) is
charactertsed by subartal low energy condttton of
deposttion stmtlar to stage (I). The last phase
(II) is represented by alternattve braktsh and marine
edlments deposited under high energy condftion.
