ABSTRACT
HaematologiJ:al and physiological changes were
studied in the blood of C1arias lazerll exposed
to 91.2 mg Cr+6/l, as indictors of toxicity.
Pronounced decrease in R.B.Cs.. haemoglobin
and haematocr1t were noted. This could be a result
of erythropofesis depression due to renal toxicity.
Higher total leucocytic count and fluctuatfons
fn their differential counts were observed. These
changes fndfcte that a state of stre.;s was present.
The hyperproteinemia recorded was attribu+pd to
leakage of the albumin molecules through the danlaged
~id!v’\’. Results showed elevated l~ve1s in serum
urea, “de licid lind ereatinf” 1I refl··etfon to renal
failure. The hyperlipida~mfa and
hypel-trfglyeeridaemia observed indicate a disturbanc.,
in th~ metabolism of these bfomolecules. £lev1ted
