ABSTRACT
Sediment samples from the area of AI-Ghardaqa were analyzed
for the following constituents: carbonate. chloride, sulphate.
organic carbon, sodium. potassium, magnesium, strontium and total
iron. The area could be subdevided into two distinct north and
south zones. The north zone has more material from terreginous
origin, compared with the south zone. Howeve’r, in both areas
carbonate decreases landwards and seawards.
The zonal distribution of chemical constituents indicates
that chloride, sulphate and potassium decrease seawards, while
organic carbon, calcium, magnesium, strontium , sodium and total
iron increase seawards.
