ABST C
Unesco established he new metica alinity cale based on
measurements of conducnvlty rano of seawater usmg KCL standard
solution. The practical salinity scale and the algorithm to calc-ulate
practica salinity are meant or use in ail seawaters. However, the
application 0 those equations on Lake Qanm. waters lead to erroneous
res….._ .. , _! . ‘. These. due to, the ionic composition in the Lake I
different from seawater. Three Equations (Ev, (E6J and (E7) gave salin ‘ties
which are the averages of 62.15%, 85.41% and 99.79% In the Lake.
Equations (Es) and (E4) give salimty which is the averacre 78.39%.
Equation (E9) give salinity with the averages of91.63% (0.9500? R,v and
112,48% (0,9500 < R15). As chlorrnity-salinity relationship (r) is 0.9757
and conductivity-salinity (r) is 0.9701. Therefore the new empirical
Equations were established in Lake Qanm. The present work provides the
bases for accurate estimation ofsalinity in Lake Qarun by applying the
recent standard oceanographic methods. The new empirical Equations
(E5) and (EP) are to be reliable and give accurate estimation ofsalinity in
the Lake,
