ABSTRACT
Age and growth ofOreochromis niloticlls (Linn.) from Lake Mariut were
studied by scale reading of215 fish. Back – calculated lengths ofage show
thatfish grow rapidly during the first year oflife then slow down considerably.
Statistically, no significant differences in the growth and length-weight
regressions between males andfemales werefound The growth ofQ. niloticus
was described by von Bertalanffy growth equation with parameters:
Loo = 33.29 em, Woo = 677.65 gram, K = 0.2389 & tf) = 0.1847.
